  Flower Festival Thank You!

May I just say a few words of thank you to everyone who helped in any way towards the success of our recent Flower Festival.  I'm sure you will agree that special thanks go to Anna Rees and her committee for all their hard work and commitment - it was a tremendous effort!  Anna worked tirelessly and with her characteristic good will and diplomacy throughout.
I would also like to express my appreciation to Judy Newall, or should I say 'The Bear Lady', Judy did stirling work in promoting the festival and looking after the bears.  Thank you also to Peter Davidson-Smith for his work, it's a shame he removed the "I'm here to help" badge.  All the Team Leaders and their flower arrangers worked so hard to produce such wonderful displays and many others helped with a variety of tasks including refreshments.  Thank you to those who helped with 'the jump' and the Kennedys who entered into the occasion with their shop window displays: Did he jump or was he pushed?

Again to everyone who got involved without your support it would not have been such an enjoyable and memorable occasion for our church and community – THANK YOU!

Bellringers Need YOU!

After our wonderful celebrations in 2008 for the centenary of the 8 bells, I'm afraid ringing at St Denys' has taken a turn downhill. Following the departure of a few band members through work and relocation, we are down to just 7 ringers, and it doesn't take a mathematician to work out that with 8 bells we have to call on friends from other towers to make up numbers.

We cannot continue to rely on neighbouring bands and sadly there are now too many occasions when I have to cancel Sunday ringing because there are not enough of us available. So, to put it bluntly, to ensure that Rotherfield has bells ringing into the future we desperately need new recruits!

If you are, perhaps, a lapsed ringer now is the time to take it up again, or, if you have never tried it but always wondered what it was like to control such a heavy loud musical instrument, then either contact myself or Mark Dawkins , or turn up one Monday evening when you hear the bells and you will be assured a very warm welcome. We are looking for recruits from teenagers upwards (no upper age limit), who are able to commit to Monday evenings and then later Sunday mornings. You don't need to be strong, ringing is all about technique and hand eye co-ordination, nor do you need to be musical, if you can count to 8 and back you are half-way there!

See you in the tower.

Press Release From North Wealden Community Transport Partnership

THE "WEALDLINK" BUS COMES TO ROTHERFIELD

For a trial period, residents of Rotherfield can now use the "Wealdlink" door-to-door community bus service for weekly shopping trips into Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells. This pilot scheme will operate for a year, to the end of March 2011, and will then be reviewed.

The Wealdlink service picks you up from your front door, takes you into Tunbridge Wells on a Tuesday or Crowborough on a Wednesday, gives you time to do your shopping and then returns you back to your home. The law does not allow the use of concessionary bus passes on services of this type. The charge for the return journey to Tunbridge Wells is £4.50, but for the Crowborough service it will, for a limited time, be just £1, thanks to some funding from Morrisons Supermarket.

To register for the service, ring 01273 517332.  Once you are registered, you must book your journey by ringing the same number on the day before you wish to travel. Since the number of passengers wanting to use the service is not known at present, potential passengers will be informed that places on the bus will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and cannot be guaranteed on a particular day.

Pick-up and return times will vary from week to week, dependent on the number and location of the passengers who book.  Once all bookings for the next day have been taken the bus operator will ring you back to give an approximate time for your pick-up.

Details of the Wealdlink service, which is aimed at people who find it difficult to use a standard bus service for any reason, are in a leaflet available from the Parish Council.  All vehicles used for this service are able to accommodate wheelchair users and baby buggies.
