House Groups

There are a number of Housegroups that meet in various peoples’ homes.  Groups meet once a fortnight for about an hour to study and discuss the Bible.  The groups are also a means of getting to know and support one another.

They study a variety of series including Old Testament and New Testament books, and also themes e.g. prayer.

In the New Year the house groups will be following a York Course "WHEN I SURVEY..... Christ's cross and ours.
The death of Christ is a dominant and dramatic theme in the New Testament. So it's not surprising that, over the centuries, the Cross has become the symbol of the Christian faith. But Christians do not honour a dead hero; we worship a Living Lord.
According to the Bible, the death of Jesus is not the end of the track- it's the gateway into life. His crucifixion
gives rise to many key themes and you'll explore some of these in this course including the place of silence in our noisy world; despair and hope; a suffering world; the challenge of living as disciples when Christianity is no longer mainstream.

The course is in five sessions over a ten week period, each session starting by listening to a DVD introduced by Dr David Hope, the retired Archbishop of York. Other people contributing are-

The Rev'd John Bell – well known for his contributions to "Thought for the Day". He is a specialist in sacred music from the Iona Community and is an ordained minister of the Church of Scotland.

General Sir Richard Dannatt- Chief of the General Staff and head of the British Army until his retirement in 2009.Sir Richard has been a committed Christian for many years.

Canon Dr Christina Baxter- Principal of St John's Theological College and Lay Chair of the General Synod.

The Rev'd Dr Collin Morris – Methodist Minister and missionary in Zambia. He is President of the Methodist Conference.

After listening to each portion of the DVD the groups then discuss what has been said. It promises to be an interesting and challenging course. Why not join us.
The courses begin during the weeks of 18th and 25th of January 2010.  For further details contact the Rector on 01892 852536 or the Reader on 01892 852447
